<sp1> Good morning, everyone. My name is ***, and [Wd-t] my major is International Economics. And now I'm a junior student. I have learned [Wd-t] English about eight years and I am interest in English. I think in my view English is not only a tool for us [Pu-r] to communicate with the outside world, but also [Pl-r] provides us a a kinds of culture which is totally different with ours [Ws-s]. I interested [M2t] in English. </sp1>
<interlocutor> That's all. </interlocutor>
<sp2> En my name is ***, and my major is Tech-communications Engineering. And I I'd like to meet all of you. </sp2>
<sp3> My name is ***, and I am a sophomore. My major is Vehicle and Transportation Engineer. Now I I like English very much. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Ok. Now that we know each other, we can do some group work. Ok, first of all, I'd like to each of you a question, Ok? Now again from ***, yes. Where do you usually get the latest news, from newspapers, the radio, TV, or the internet, why? </interlocutor>
<sp1> En I always [Mw] get the latest news from TV because [Pu-r] I think that's the con most convenient for me to get the news since there's a TV in my dormitory. And usually [Ws-sh] we watch en News of Thirty [S2] Minutes. During lunch time we always have lunch in our dormitory and we can watch the news at the same time. Compared [Wd-t] with other means [Ws-s] of getting news, such like internet or radio, it's not very convenient. En first of all that we have not very convenient access [S2] to this kind of means [Ws-s]. </sp1>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. Now ***, yes. Do you have access to the internet on campus [Pu-r]? Which sites do you often visit and why? </interlocutor>
<sp2> En yes, I have very easy access [S2] to the [We-e] internet because in our dorm, en, in our [Wu-v] campus [Pu-r] there is a computer center, and in my spare time I always go there. And I think Internet is very convenient in these days. En sometimes en en I read in somewhere recently that the sites of internet is doubling every four month [Wo-e], and every people en think that nowadays writing a letter en sill take a lot of time, and if you want telephone somebody, it's very expensive. So the internet is the most en convenient the most er cheaper way for us to communicate with ea- with each other [Wt]. So our school err offer us [P-l] this sou- en this kind of ways and so we we feel very very very very convenient for this kind of means. </sp2>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. Now ***, yes. En what would life be like, ok, what would life be like without the mass media? </interlocutor>
<sp3> Without the, without what? </sp3>
<interlocutor> Mass media, that is, TV, radio and... </interlocutor>
<interrupted>
<sp3> I think life could be totally changed without without this this useful improvements because I think media [Pa-r] is very useful for us [Pu-r] to communicate with others. I think in the modern [Po-r] [Md] society [Pe-r], people needs to communicate with each other frequently. And they want to get useful information from others because you are in one side; you cannot know the other side of the world. So you can through the media [Pa-r] to get the useful information. And I think these [Ws-s] days [Ws-s] the media [Pa-r] is more important for us [Pu-r] to know to know to know anything because you are a well knowledge person, you have to establish your whole career [Ma]. You want to work with people; you want to communicate with others. So I think it's really really very useful for us to use this media [Pa-r]. And we are going to use this media [Pa-r] in universities. And with the develop of China, these [Ws-s] medias [Pa-r] [Ws-s] are more and more useful for us and it's really ???? in our daily life. So I think it's really really very useful, you have to ??? for our </sp3>
</interrupted>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. Now let's move on to something more specific. I'd like you to talk about the mass media, ok, yes. You will be given a set of four pictures in a minute, showing different kinds of mass media, yes. Please say something about the picture, and you will be given one en you will be given one minute to prepare and each of you will have one and a half minute to present, en. Don't worry if I interrupt you when time is up, ok? Yes. All right, here are the pictures Now ***, would you please begin, *** and ***, please put your pictures aside and listen to what *** has to say. </interlocutor>
<sp2> Yes, there's a lot of me- mass medias that for us to get information, such as we can get information from a television. En nowadays with the development of economics, every dormitory has a television and so we can get get information en in a very easy way. En in our spare [Wa-ai] time we often can watch television, but sometimes en en there's another way that we can get media is that we can go we can watch a newspaper we can en read a newspaper. En in our school there is a lot of places that offer us [P-l] the err infor environment of of the reading environment such as en en outside the dining hall [Pl-r] or at the at the at the gate of the library. So we can en use a little time every day to read newspaper. And another way to get information is that we can en hooking the information on the [We-e] internet. En there's a lot of computers in our [Wu-v] en in our [Wu-v] campus [Pu-r], and like our dormitory we has computer too. So we can looking this information, varieties of information, such as you can get information in a few seconds all over the world, and you can also send E-mails to the people to the friends that you want to send information to. And another way to get the media is that you can en get get information through the radio. Err it it's also very convenient way. And everybody has a radio. It's very cheap. You can put the radio on your pocket, and when you go to going to have lunch, or you exercise, or you do your en very listening to, en or you do some en easily job, you can always listening to the radio and get information that you want to get. </sp2>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. Now ***, it's your turn. </interlocutor>
<sp3> I think there are different kinds of the ways of mass media [Pa-r]. First you can you can see the boys doing exercises when he is listening to the radio. But I I think radio is a good way of the mass media [Pa-r] </sp3>
<interrupted>
<interlocutor> No, excuse me. your picture is, ok, bigger one, you know. </interlocutor>
</interrupted>
<sp3> Sorry. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Yeah, OK. </interlocutor>
<sp3> I think what I appreciate most is internet because people can communicate with each other through the [We-e] internet. Because in Beijing, there are more and more people communicating with others through the [We-e] E- mail. E-mail's quite common nowadays. we can see landcards doing always the [We-e] E-mail under the net netcards. And I think the most advantage [Md] of internet is the is up is updated. You can you can receive the the news receive receive the new from every [Mr] parts of the world and you can connect with your friends and professors in universities and outside. And it's very cheap for you to communicate with others because when you telephone or you en or you do some write some write some letters. It's it's cheaper, so quite quite cheaper. And today I think internet has a very very bright future, because every world I think there is one day when every world is connected by the whole internet [Mn]. People can through internet </sp3>
<interrupted>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. I have to interrupt you. Now please, Miss ***, it's your turn. </interlocutor>
</interrupted>
<sp1> En here here there are four types of miss en mass media [Pa-r], TV, newspaper, internet and radio. En en en all of them provide us a way of get the latest news and information. En I I pre- personally I per- prefer TV best. First TV en first it provides us not only the sound, but also you can see the pictures and you can get the whole sides of the news from different aspect. And secondly en TV also en not only the news, but also it can do some researches and make some en en some deep deep insight analys-analy-analysises [S1] [Wi-ai] for us for us to understand compared with with radio or newspapers. And one ad- one disadvantage of TV I think is that en we lack the interaction between the TV and ourselves. We can only receive the TV program pass passi en passively. That's all. </sp1>
<interlocutor> That's OK, right. Now we all have some idea of various kinds of mass media, right? Yes. I'd like you to discuss this topic further and see if you can agree on which is the best way to get the latest news, yes. During the discussion you may argue with each other or ask each other questions to clarify your point. You will have about four and a half minutes for the discussion. And your performance will be judged according to your contribution to the discussion. Now let's begin. </interlocutor>
<sp3> I think internet is the most useful way to get the latest news because you can see the different parts of the world are working on the same net and they are they are providing the the news at any time when you are sleep and the others are at work. So I think so. </sp3>
<sp1> I agree with you on the point that internet is maybe the fa fastest [Pa-r] [M1s] way to provide news up to now, but I think there are also disadvantages of internet since en not en nowadays not most of people have the access [S2] to internet very conveniently. And maybe the most convenient way and f en used widely way for them to get news is from TV or from radio. I prefer TV pro en TV news better since you can en not only en you can get the the the news very quickly and very in in detail. </sp1>
<sp2> But I think that internet is also my favorite way to communicate with each other and a lot of people who always send E-mail can tell you the [We-e] advantages [W3a-e] [Pe-r] of internet and you can get a lot of information from internet, all of the world you can get information about other other country's culture and other other country's religious [Pu-r] politics, e e every kind of news that you can get from internet. I think there's disadvantages of intenet that you can't you can't keep the information that you want to get immediately. You can save it in a [Pa-r] present [S2] but you can't always. En I think if you read newspaper, it's more convenient, it's very cheap and you can buy it day everyday you can buy newspaper, and you can keep it any time. If you want to lend it to to other person to read, and I think it is a a convenient way for all of us to read newspapers. </sp2>
<sp3> I think I do not quite agree with you on the point that the TV's the the most most successful way to get the latest news. I think internet certainly [Mt] could be the most successful way to get the latest news because you you just know that a program for you to watch has a long process to make. En you you after you see it new, you have to en to deal with them and to find some person to perform them. But in the [We-e] internet you you can they are working at any time. You can you can communicate information through the table and different en what different different lines. I think it's quite useful for us. And today more and more people are are are getting use getting use to the to the [We-e] internet. They are trying to learn more about internet, not only the old men, but also the young men are all doing the same thing, especially the young. I think I believe that many cities will be the same. </sp3>
<sp1> Yeah. En another problem of internet I think is that nowadays there are many fake [Wk-g] news on internet since people have can not judge can not judge which newses true or false. So we should pay attention to this problem and en some I think the the China should make some rules to strengthen the control of the internet news on this on this point. And I'd like to ask a question since com en what do you think of advantage of radio since compared with TV, you can not see the the person or see the whole whole things, and compared with newspaper en newspaper is cheap, and compared with internet internet is faster. So what do you think of the advantage of radio? Maybe it should be en en maybe it is out of date. What do you think of that? </sp1>
<sp3> I think radio is no different from TV that radio also need a whole process. And you you can listen you can receive the information from the radio, and can receive information from TV, but many people many people are more interested in receiving the information [M1n] from internet because it is really a latest news and it's really from other parts of the world. They want to listen different voices; they want to to see the different websites in American African and Europe. They want to know more about the world. Then you are listening to the radio and you listening you are watching the TV, you just from domestic affairs, you just don't know more about the world. I think it's really useful and people needs it to communicate with others. </sp3>
<sp2> But I think just as you what you said just now that radio compared to the internet the TV there's a lot of disadvantage. But I think the radio is very convenient. You can put in the pocket and you can listen to it anytime anywhere that you want to. And you it won't bother others. It it cannot ge get way of other people's rest when other people want to go to bed or want to has study [Pu-r]. If you watching TV or play on the computer other people feel very troublesome. They they feel they will destructed by you. But if you listen to a radio, you can use a ear phone, and you can you can listen to it quietly. Nobody will notice you. </sp2>
<sp2> Yeah, I agree with you. </sp2>
<interrupted>
<interlocutor> Ok, excuse me. That's all right, that's the end of the discussion, because time is limited, Ok. Now I'd like to ask you just one last question on the same topic mass media, yeah. Err this time I will yes, ***, yes. Do you think newspaper will be replaced by the internet in the future, why or why not? </interlocutor>
</interrupted>
<sp1> En no I don't think newspaper will be replaced by internet in the future. En first newspaper has its its own advantage. First it's very cheap and it can en and almost everyone can have can have the chance to get the newspaper easily from the stacks or from the post office. But en internet compared [Wd-t] with newspaper en en not many people can afford [Wd-t] afford [Wd-t] internet and they can get access [S2] to to the to internet. So I do not think newspaper one day will be replaced by the internet. And another advantage of newspaper is that newspaper can have the en have the value to to keep. And maybe one you keep the one newspaper about today's affairs. Maybe 100 years later it can be as a very valuable attic. So it's en com in this points I do not I don't think newspaper will be replaced by internet. </sp1>
<interlocutor> Ok, thank you. ***, yes. Which newspaper do college students like most, and why? </interlocutor>
<sp3> I think the 21th century is the most likable newspaper in college life because people can en can always learn en regard this newspaper as a tool to learn English, and also provides [Wd-z] many latest news and many news that we are really interested in, such as environment news, the sports news and something about politics. You really want to to to see some some new thing from newspaper. And I think 21st has special value [Wa-o] main campus life. And it has a close relationship with our daily life. People has see the students can see the how the students lead their life in campus [Pu-r] and how they spend their s s s spare time in college [Mg]. And also provides [Wd-z] some en useful information to go abroad [Mr] to study in the foreign foreign universities such as the examination, very useful examination, such as TOFEL and GRE. And provide [Wd-z] us many thing important for us to to to to to very important news for us to for us new. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Yeah, thank you. Now ***, yes. Which kind of en just now you mentioned that OK radio has a lot of OK ad advantages. Now tell me, do you think it is the most influential me en mass media in our daily life? I mean radio. </interlocutor>
<sp2> Influential? </sp2>
<sp3> I don't know the influence. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Influence? Impact, influence. </interlocutor>
<interlocutor> Influential, influence. OK, as the greatest influence on people's daily life. </interlocutor>
<sp2> Newspaper? </sp2>
<interlocutor> You know it. Radio, OK. </interlocutor>
<sp2> Oh yes. I think the radio has a lot of in influence on us that when we have something have some trouble we want to tell somebody. But we we are very shy to tell the people that we we we very familiar [S1] [Wa-i:], so we can tell the hostess in the in the radio. At at night we can telephone them and tell them what we are think and what we are tel en en when we are s en what we are think. So I think it's the very good way for us to communicate with them. They can offer us [P-l] a lot of ways to solve our problems. And en this is one advantage. En secondly I think en nowadays radio is still has their en has their field on people en such as our parents who don't know how to play on the computer. They have no access [S2] to the computers. So they can listen to the radio everyday. They also can get information that they want. They can listen to some en news such as the politics, religious [Pu-r] and a lot of events that happening. Then they can also to listen to the music that they like or they can en to en listen to some game shows that to get their entertainment. So I think the radio is very en is is won't be replaced replaced by other media [Pa-r] in the future. </sp2>
<interlocutor> OK, thank you very much. That's the end of the test. Thank you everybody, and give me the pictures and the paper. </interlocutor>
