<interlocutor> ***,what western festivals are there? Can you say something about them? </interlocutor>
<sp2> Western festivals yeah I think as er China becomes more and more er most of the Chinese people can more and more used to western festivals like the Valentine's day and also Christmas day and Hollowing days as er also we have the Christ. I think one of the biggest festivals we take is the Christmas day on the December 25. And everyone er almost everyone anyone in the school we are er we are enjoying themselves on this day. And we are go out playing with our friends and have some dinner with our friends. </sp2>
<interlocutor> ***, is Christmas an important festival in China? </interlocutor>
<sp3> I think yeah I think it is especially [P2e-r] in the metropolis you know that is er. They sit again are now or enjoying the Christmas day and we er. And also we can have spare time to er celebrate to drink together to getCagether together to mm to communicate with our family so that we can know each other very well. So that er after the er festival [Wa-j] we can live a good life. That's it. Thank you. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Now let's move on to some thing more specific. The topic for our discussion today is about eastern and western festivals. Each of you will be given a picture showing two festivals. I like you to talk about these two festivals and say something about how they are separated. You will have one minute to prepare and each of you will have one and half minutes to give your presentation. Don't worry if I interrupt you when time is up. Now here are your pictures. </interlocutor>
<interlocutor> Now *** ,would you please begin? *** and *** please put your pictures aside and listen to what *** say? </interlocutor>
<sp2> Ok. Er there the two festivals described on my picture. The one of the the one of one of them is the Chinese traditional festival Middle Autumn festival. We all know that it is celebrate on the er August 15 in the lunar calendar. And on this festival people usually er the whole family usually gather together and they usually have the food the moon cake then the cake is just as round as the moon so it it has the name. And on that day the moon is usually the most round in in the mast. So on in the evening on this day the whole family always gather together have enjoy themselves watching us watching the moon and enjoy themselves with the moon cake. And also there is the western festival, it is the New Year's day. On this day er many of the foreigners will [Pl-r] celebrate the this festival together they are usually have parties champagnes, dancing parties yeah especially when the 2000 year comes, because it's a new century. </sp2>
<interlocutor> Ok, *** ,it's your turn. </interlocutor>
<sp2> Thank you. </sp2>
<sp1> Ok, my picture my picture shows us my picture shows us the festival [Pl-r]of the spring festival [Pl-r] in east .Mm in this day in this day everybody [Po-r] is very happy. And this is the most important this is the most important festival [Pl-r] in our city in our country. Mm we can see our child is playing off fire [Mr] cracker and er and member member of the family is reunion to eat er to eat mm. The festival [Pl-r] is er is what is the. The children like the festival very much, because they can get they can get new clothes and books [Poo-r] and er they can eat delicious food [Poo-r] er as much as as much as they want My the other picture shows us the Christmas [P1s-t] Christmas [P1s-t] Christmas day in the western mm in the day on that day people will get some will get many presents. </sp1>
<interlocutor> Ok, *** ,and now it's your turn. </interlocutor>
<sp3> Ok, and picture of me have two festivals [S2]. And one is festival [S2] one is one is the dragon boat festival [S2]and another is April [Mr] fool's day. We can see in the [Pe-r] left the picture is the dragon boat festival [S2]. There are many people driving together [Wo-ou] to compete for the to compete for the to compete with each other, so that they can win [Wi-ai] the competition, but all of those all of us know that it is more important to participate [W2a-o] [S1] participate than to win, so the result is not very important. We just mm gather together to perform to, yeah, I'm sorry, to get together is just for fun[wu-o]I think. And the second [We-ae] is about [Pu-r] April fool's day. Someone is get a ????. She is she think she can get a lot of money. And now she is dreaming of the she is dreaming er of have a private car and a beautiful houses and also er she lives she spend a ???, but in the fact in the end she find that it's wrong and she is fooled [Wo-e], because it's the April the first. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Right. Now we all have some ideas of different festivals. I want you to discover this topic further and say if you can agree on which festivals are the most popular with young people in China and why? During the discussion you may argue with each other or ask each other questions to clarify your point. You have about four and half minutes for the discussion. Your performance will be judged according to your contribution to the discussion. Remember, during the discussion, you should try to capture out the agreement on which festivals are most popular with young people in China. Please give your reasons. </interlocutor>
<sp3> Yeah. Lady first. </sp3>
<sp1> Ok ,I think the Christmas Christmas is the most popular in the [Pe-r] in the [Pe-r] young in the [Pe-r] young people, because er we can celebrate it we can celebrate it in many ways, we can have a party er or it it together mm. It's a it's very it's very mm. Young people all love it all love the day, as they maybe relax relax at on the day mm. And have to and to communicate with each other er get to know them well [Wll-e]. </sp1>
<sp2> I can't agree with you more. I and I also think that Christmas day is the most popular festival celebrated in China. Among the epical especially er we college university students I think mn on this day students always gather together and they will enjoy themselves for good dinner er also they will go out play and nowadays more and more students more and more they will buy some the Santa clothes, red, hat. And they will present some presents to each other. I think that's very interesting. </sp2>
<sp3> Er, but I think er the New Year's day is the most popular is the most popular day in among among the young people, because [Wau-o] especially [Pll-r] our our university students you knew that's in the in the eve , we can go the center [W2e-e] of the city to have a happy night happy day, I'm sorry happy time, to have a good time, to have a good time. </sp3>
<sp2> But in fact when the 2000 year come, we celebrate the New Year in our university and some of the students feel really frustrated, because the the celebrate celebrate party is not so interesting at the scene, so they prefer Christmas day better. </sp2>
<sp3> But I don't think so. You know many of the classmates go to went the center [W2e-e] of the city. We shouted er we mn we are very excited to welcome the new millennium [P2n-r] of coming new millennium's coming. And er we think we will have a good future in the new century. </sp3>
<sp2> But I think it's er for college students it's much more popular when the Christmas day come. And Many young people go out shouting on the street and enjoy themselves. Don't you think so? </sp2>
<sp3> Sorry. </sp3>
<interlocutor> All right, that's the end of the discussion. Now I'd like to ask you just one last question on the topic of festivals of eastern and western. ***, will you feel offended or amused if. Your friend plays a trick on you on purpose. </interlocutor>
<sp1> I don't, sorry. <sp1>
<interlocutor> Will you feel offended or amused if your friend plays a trick on you on purpose. </interlocutor>
<sp1> Mm, I don't. It doesn't matter for me, because my friends are kind are very kind to me. We I have good relationship with them. I'm the easy-going person, er so er they don't very often treat trick with me. </sp1>
<interlocutor> ***, why do you think shop-keepers like festivals? </interlocutor>
<sp2> Shop-keepers, yeah of course they really like very much, because on festivals [Pl-r] usually the young people er of course including some the old peoples and adults they will [Pl-r] buy a lot of things for their relatives and for their friends, so they can sell a lot of things to the customers and at the same time they will earn a lot of money. So they like the festivals very much. Yeah I think so. </sp2>
<interlocutor> ***, do you think the celebration of the western festivals should be encouraged in China? </interlocutor>
<sp3> Yes, I think so, because [Wa-o] the new century has been gone . The China is facing a lot of challenging challenge as well as opportunities. We must develop our economy. If we have more western festivals, the people in our country have more time to do shopping, so that we stimulate [Pi-j] our consuming yeah, also I think when we relax ourselves, we can work more harder to to do to make contributions to our country. That's it. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Ok, that's the end of the test. Thanks, everybody! </interlocutor>
<spall> Thank you! </spall>
