<sp2> And mm I'm ***, and the the number of my admission [P1i-ni] ticket is 178. </sp2>
<sp3> Er my name is ***. My ticket of admini er my number of my ticket admission is 0086. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Now, would you briefly introduce yourselves to each other. Remember you should [Md] not [Mt] mention the name of your university. </interlocutor>
<sp1> OK. Firstly I should say I'm very lucky to have the opportunity of er making gran making friends with [Wth-s] all of you. And I'm a university [Wv-w] student major in economics. And the direction of my major is commerce [Wer-o:r] economics. And my hobby is drawing and reading extensively. And I have [Wve-f] er drawn a lot of useful er... knowledges and experiences [Wp-p] to built my personality and character. That's my introduction. Thank you. </sp1>
<sp2> Mm and I'm a and I'm a junior student in university, and I major in foreign language for international trade. Language and culture [Pe-r] are my favorites. So for years, I'll been trying my best to learn them well [Ww-v]. And I think they will [Ww-v] make [Mk] me mm well rounded and also will do a lot of good [Md] toward [Md] my personality and character. </sp2>
<sp3> Erm Now, le-let intro let me my introduce myself. Er my name is ***, I come from Tanjing. I'm a sophomore [S3], studying er economics. Er I'm very glad to have this chance er to take the [Pe-er] spoken English test with both of you. Ern That's my introduction. Thank you. </sp3>
<interlocutor> OK. Now that we know each other we can do some group work. First of all I would [Md] like to ask each of you to say something about university life. Er *** </interlocutor>
<sp1> Mm Yes. </sp1>
<interlocutor> What do you think is the most interesting aspect of university life? </interlocutor>
<sp1> I think [Wth-s], er the most [Mt] interesting aspect of my university [Wer-or] life. First [Wir-or], I can learn some univ some useful knowledges [Pge-er], er es-ec-especially in ec-economics and some other related subjects, such as marketing, advanced [Wv-w] mathematics, computer and English [Wng-n], and I'm very interested in language learning. Er second [Mc-k] I can [Wa-er] I should say is I'm the vice [Wv-w] per vice [Wv-w] chairman of our er department student's union. And [Md] I have a lot work [Wor-o] to do in my spare time. Ah although I'm ah and a little bit er pressure in my campus life. But I think [Wth-s] this is it's very essential to built my personality and character, I can drawn ah very pressure ah experiences [Wp-p] ah to ah qualify myself to myself to the future [Pe-r] challenges. Ah that's my opinion, thank you. </sp1>
<interlocutor> ***, how [Wow-o] do you like being a university student? </interlocutor>
<sp2> Very very like it. Erm Because [Mse] I enjoy [Wj-dr] my univ campus life because it could [Md] give me enough time to build myself to cultivate [Wv-w] my mind and my body, mentally or physically. And [Md] also I could [Md] make friend with er excellent [Mt] teacher. I think [Wth-s] [Mk] I could learn [Ml] enough or a lot of [Mf] experience [Wp-p] from this teacher, because [Mse] they have [Wve-w] them older than I, I'm er just mn twenty twenty-two years old. So I think [Mk] I should [Md] always learn more from the elder people. And also I could [Md] join [Wj-dr] in or take part in various [Wv-w] of activities on campus. It could do a lot of erm good to me. </sp2>
<interlocutor> OK, ***. Can you say something about student activities in your university? </interlocutor>
<sp3> Ern of course. Mmer take our orchestra organize by our student union for example, er I became one of is members, er since I enter university, ern ern the the ern the biggest [Pt-er] the biggest di-di-difference from ah I'm sorry, I I'm a little nervous. Mm the biggest difference from our orchestra er be er from others is ern our orchestra are composed are composed of to er girls. At first we didn't know much about er classical music, and didn't what is saxophone [M1o] and what is French Hall, but now we can play the we can play them very well. And up to now we have [Wve-w] ern give a lot of performance. And won and won a good reputation [Wu-er] on the campus. So I think ern ern the activities er in university is very colorful. Thank you. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Now, Let's move on to something more specific, the topic for our discussion today is student activities. Each of you will be given a card with four pictures showing different activities. So I would [Md] like you to give a brief description [Wc-k] of each activity, and then make some comments on it. You will have one minute to prepare, each of you will have one and half minutes for the presentation. Don't worry if I interrupt you when time is up. Now here are the cards. </interlocutor>
<interlocutor> Now, ***, would you please [Wse-s] begin. And *** and ***, please [Wse-s] put your cards aside, and listen to what *** has to say. </interlocutor>
<sp1> Yes, er just er described [Wc-k] four pictures. Ern first [Wir-or] ern I have shown up a picture [Pe-er] in English corner, ern a lot of students are communicate with [Wth-s] each other in English [Wng-n] [Wi-ei]. And I think [Wth-s] [Mk] it is the best way for us to er practice in English [Wng-n] [Wi-ei] and using English [Wng-n] [Wi-ei] as a tool [Ml] in our communication. Because [Wse-s] after China has entery the World Treat [M2t] Organization, we should [Md] not only use English er er by reading and listening, we should [Md] express [Wp-p] ourself using English as a tool [Ml], since face-to-face communication English is very important, and second picture is er the dance party. I think [Wth-s] [Mk] it's very good [Woo-u:] for boys [Ws-s] and girls to communicate with each other and understand each other, and I think [Wth-s] er in this party we can er get acquainted with some new new friends, and [Pd-er] to er show our abilities [Wa-o] to communication and make new friends. And third [Wth-s] [Md] picture is a club. That er a lot of er er a lot of photographers get together. They discuss the pictures [Pe-r] they are taken from the outside [Mt] world. I think [Wth-s] they are er communicate with the true [Pe-r] nature [Pe-r]. And I should say I'm the lover of art. And erm my hobby is drawing. I think [Wth-s] there are some similarities between er drawing pictures [Pe-r] and ah taken pictures [Pe-r]. And fourth pictures [Pe-r] shows us the er debate in the universities [Wer-or], and I'm lucky I'm very lucky to be the organizer of our department er university [Wer-or] debate. And when I'm compete with the er law department in our univ in our college, I'm the [Pe-r] best er best debaters [Wb-p] . And I think [Wth-s] all this experiences [Wp-p] have [Wve-f] give me very useful knowledge. And from [Mr] er organizing all this kind of activities, we can make new friends [Wds-s] and develop ourselves [Ws-s]. </sp1>
<interrupted>
<interlocutor> OK. </interlocutor>
</interrupted>
<sp1> Thank you. </sp1>
<interlocutor> ***, it's your turn. </interlocutor>
<sp2> OK. I think social practice is er very important factor in campus life. And I have done [Wo-e] three of this fourth pictures, so I could I give my presentation with my experience [Wp-p] to describe [Wc-k] this, mm and first of all, is student just doing some [Mm] marketing [Mt] sur-survey [S1] [Wv-w]. Hm just for me, I always [Ws-s] when I walk around [Md] and just walk along the Bingjiang Road. Some people would [Md] like to say Sir, do you have some [Mm] free time I want to do survey [S1] [Wv-w] with you? But hm just before I draw I came to university, I think [Mk] is useless. I and I don't fond of it. But for this years I think it is very important for student, especially [Wp-p] just as *** ern *** and and me, who study economics. We should [Md] this kind of work [Wor-o] to know what customers need. Hm and then, in my when we doing our job, we could [Md] meet customers' need well [Ww-v]. And second one is to er teaching child [Wi-e], mm this is a young boy teaching a little girl. That [Mt] really funny. And I think the boy especially [Wp-p] boys [Ws-s] always [Ws-s] erm just like playing or studying, but payimg less attention on character or personality. So, hm when I teaching a child, I find [Md] I could [Md] learn a lot from this child, although they're innocent [S2] [Wo-ou]. And the third one is to teach the [Pe-r] farmers how to cultivate [Wv-w]. I think it's very [Wv-w] important, because [Mse] we have [Wve-w] knowledge. But farmers doesn't. So, hm we should [Md] mm teach some teach them something and make our [Wou-o] knowledge useful. Otherwise [Wse-s], I think it is useless of what we learn. And for last one is to be a interpreter of the exhi-bi-tion, esp-especially [Wp-p] for the foreigners. I think it gives us very very very important chance to cooperate to communicate with foreigners. And erm it can it can be done [Wo-e] in erm on campus [Wa-a] or outside [Wou-o] campus [Wa-a]. So it also give us ta a chance to erm introduce our [Wou-o] country to foreigner and also learn different foreign cultures [Pe-er]. </sp2>.
<interrupted>
<interlocutor> OK. ***, it's your turn. </interlocutor>
</interrupted>
<sp3> Ern yes. Erm er er as I as far as I know, there are there are various activities in in the in the univer in the [We-i] university. And in I in my picture [Pe-er] ern is described [Wc-k] volunteer [Wv-w] [Mlu] activities, ern some ern just like helping disabled people, ern doing some services, ern. in sports [Wp-p] meeting, and help visiting [Wv-w] old [Md] visiting [Wv-w] old man to help them, do some [Wm-n] cleaning [M1n] er do some cleaning [M1n] work, and mending mending some things, just like T er television, ern recorder especially for for students who study engineering. Ern as as a university as a university s-student, ern we have, a student [Mt], we have [Wv-w] ern the government [Po-r] have spend many time in our education. So, ernern we have the [Pe-er] responsibility for the contributing on the socie on the contributing to the society [Pe-r]. Ervolunteer [Wv-w] activity is the best way for us to do this thing [Wth-s] er to do this things. Ern I think volunteer [Wv-w] activities is make make more makes make more sense than other activities in the university [Wv-w] [Wer-or] in the university [Wer-or]. Ern they are ern they not only help [We-er] they not only give us [Pu-r] some ersome experiences [Wp-p] before ern ern we enter the society [Pe-r], but also er cultivate [Wv-w] us cultivate [Wv-w] us er mn a good character [Per-r]. Er and make me, and make us [Pu-r] ern become more ma-matu-mature [Pe-r] er before we enter the univer ern enter the society [Pe-r]. So I think erm taken part in volunteer [Wv-w] active-activities in our spare time is [Ws-s] is [Ws-s] very useful. </sp3>
<interlocutor> Right. Now we all have some idea of the various kinds of student activities, I would [Md] like you to discuss this topic further, and see if you can agree on why such activities are beneficial to college students. During the discussion, you may argue with each other or ask each other questions to clarify a point. You will have about four and a half minutes for the discussion. Your performance will be judged according to your contribution to the discussion. Remember, during the discussion you should try to come to an agreement on why students can benefit from taking part in students activities. OK. You may begin. </interlocutor>
<sp2> OK. I think erm especially [Wp-p] to students we are mostly like of experience [Wp-p]. Doing this mm activities could give give us a chance to gain more experience [Wp-p]. </sp2>
<sp1> Yes, I agree with [Wth-z] you. And I think [Wth-s] as a university students, we shouldn't only concentrate our attention on our er studies inside our classroom. </sp1>
<interrupted>
<sp2> Yeah. </sp2>
</interrupted>
<sp1> We should also broaden [Woa-ai] our eyesight er from er making a new friends [Wds-s], gain new experiences [Wp-p] from this er social can social activities er to make our campus life [Wi-e] various and rich our mind. Erm so I think [Wth-s] to build our our chara-character and develop ourselves, it is very essential for us to take part in the activities. That's my opinion. </sp1>
<interrupted>
<sp3> Ah yeah. </sp3>
</interrupted>
<interrupted>
<sp2> Yes, yes, that's means to broaden our horizon. </sp2>
</interrupted>
<sp1> Yes. </sp1>
<sp3> Yes. I quite agree with both of you. </sp3>
<sp1> Erm </sp1>
<sp3> Ern I think ern take er take er take part in ac-activities not only give er gives us experiences [Wp-p], ern but also ern enhance our ability er in communication, er organization and some-something [Wth-s] like that. Ern before we enter society [Pe-r], ern so, and we er we can also make man-many friends ern in our campus. And this ern this are all ad-advantages er activity takes er take take to us. </sp3>
<sp1> Yes. And I think [Wth-s] er in the near future [Pe-r], especially [Wp-p] after China has entered the W-WTO, we shouldn't only ern communication with ourselves, we should make er communi make communication with other people, especiall er to the foreign enterprises. So we should have the er ability and make full use of our talents, er to er make contributions to our countries [Wou-e] and to our society [Pe-r]. That's my opinion. </sp1>
<sp2> E-especially [Wp-p] doing something with foreigners, I think [Mk] it could [Md] give us er chance to learn different cultures [Pe-r]. Because [Mse] in new society, we must be multi-cultured person. </sp2>
<sp3> Er, yes er er when after China's entery into WTO, ern English is the most is is one of the useful ern communication tool [Ml] for us. I think English corner is a best way to express [Wp-p] er to practice our ern English er ab-ab spoken English ability, er so er espe er besides we [Ww-v] can learn from foreign er we can learn some more culture [Pe-r] and people all society [Pe-r] from foreign from foreign student or foreign teachers in er in our university. And this will make er this will be benefit for us er when we when we er when we graduate from school or ern take job [Wj-dr] in some companies [Pa-r]. </sp3>
<sp1> Mm Yes. I think [Wth-s] er this activities ern boys [Ws-s] and girls er communicate with each other. And I think [Wth-s] er when we describe [Wc-k] a man we use the name brave [Wa-i] [Wv-w] ern neige brave [Wa-i] [Wv-w] and masculine [Wu-er] to describe [Wc-k] a man. When we describe [Wc-k] a woman [Wo-i] we use tender, passionate and pair. So I think [Wth-s] both [Wth-s] man and woman [Wo-i] have their advantages and disadvantages, they should er cooperate with each other very well [Ww-v], so from this activities boys [Ws-s] and girls can learn from each other and help each other, so I think [Wth-s] it is a very good opportunity for them er to build their character er outside our class. </sp1>
<sp2> And I think boys always could [Md] learn a lot from girls. </sp2>
<interlocutor> OK. That's the end of discussion. Now, I would [Md] like to ask just one last question on the topic of student activities. Now Yan Bin, which student activities do you like most? </interlocutor>
<sp2> I like be interpreter, because [Mse] I have an ESEC training [Wai-i] this semester [P2s-i], and we have [Wv-w] rule if I in the if the students in the hall, one students speaks one Chinese word [Wor-or] could be punish one kuai, hm hm so mm I also think I I should take part in role [Wo-o] of the ern activity about foreigner, no matter he is American or from mm Canada, from Vancouver [Wv-p] or Korean, or Japanese [Wse-s]. I alike them. </sp2>
<interlocutor> All right, ***. </interlocutor>
<sp1> Yes. </sp1>
<interlocutor> Do you think it is worthwhile to spend time on student activities? </interlocutor>
<sp1> I think [Wth-s] it is worthwhile [Wi-e], although it take some er study time for me to do this activities, because [Wse-s] I'm vice [Wv-w] chairman of our department. And I think [Wth-s] this experience [Wp-p] is [Ws-s] precious and valuable [Wv-w] for me to er develop my ability and to er make my eyesight my eyesight more wide, so I think [Wth-s] from er this activities and from organizing all kinds of activities, I can accomplish my goals set [Pid] in my life, and build myself qualified to the future [Pe-r] challenges and opportunities. I should take responsibility of myself and do a good job in the future. Thank you. </p1>
<interlocutor> OK. ***. </interlocutor>
<sp3> Mm </sp3>
<interlocutor>Do you think university students should be encouraged to do volunteer work? </interlocutor>
<sp3> Er of course [Wse-s] I agree with this ern will, ern because [Wse-s] ern as university student, our ern one of most one of one of er one of my our purpose er of studying is to ern do some [Mm] do more contributions to our society [Pe-r]. Ern so volunteer [Wv-w] activities is a big is a good chance for er for us [Ms] to practice er this ab-abilities, ern such as helping er disabled people, or er visiting [Wv-w] old people in ern to help them to do some thing, ern can can make us can make us more kind-hearted and and ern more responsibility er for er for our for our country [Wou-e]. So ern this vol [Wv-w] so volunteer activities ern ern give ern given mm give more take more advantages [W3a-ei] of our university student. And [Pd-er] ern when we enter society [Pe-r], this will ern this will ern wealth for us ern to ern to benefit [Mt] ern to adjust ourself to the society or to the ern company [Pa-r] or communicate with others. </sp3>
<interlocutor> OK. </interlocutor>
<sp3> Thank you. </sp3>
<interlocutor> That's the end of the test. Thank you everybody. </interlocutor>
<spall> Thank you. </spall>
