Obama: Lawmakers should forge 'consensus' on jobs
President Obama echoed yesterday's jobs speech after meeting with members of Congress this morning, but this time was a little less critical of Republican opposition to his economic plan.
"It's no secret there's been less than bi-partisan support" for the stimulus bill and other anti-recession actions, Obama said in brief remarks at the White House.
He added, however, that political leaders "should be able to forge a consensus" to help people find jobs," and added, "I am absolutely committed to working with anybody who is willing to do the job."
The president outlined the same jobs program he did yesterday: Using the Troubled Asset Relief Program to get more loans to small businesses; speeding up road and bridge projects; and developing new clean energy programs, including rebates for owners who weatherize their homes.
