Russian Police Release Sketch of Bombing Suspects
MOSCOW -- The police on Monday released the sketch of a suspect in the bombing of a luxury train that killed 26 people, along with a description of an accomplice. Both were spotted in the remote area of the attack in the days before it occurred, officials said.
Investigators have also discovered a house near the crash site, which is 200 miles northwest of Moscow, where the attackers may have hidden before planting the homemade bomb, the Interfax news agency reported. Four people were said to have been in the house, and DNA samples were recovered.
The attack on Friday night derailed the Nevsky Express, a train that travels between Moscow and St. Petersburg and is popular with the country's elite, as well as tourists. The bomb, equivalent to about 15 pounds of TNT, left a crater five feet deep.
Officials said Monday that the death toll rose to 26 with the death of a woman who suffered severe injuries. Scores of others remain hospitalized.
The sketch of the suspect was said by the police to be of a man, 50 to 55 years old, with very light skin, a gray jacket and a multicolored tie. The description said the man was wearing a red-haired wig.
