Most people tend to think that education is the preparation of people's future jobs. As long as they start working, they do not have to learn any more. Education is one means to obtain high degrees. However, people who hold this view will get into troubles in their future life. Actually people should be active to learn as long as they live.
New ideas always crop up in this developing world. Today's world is developing quickly. They will become backward if they do not keep updated with new findings and inventions. For example, people who have not learn new computer skills for five years do not know how to deal with today's computers. If a professor of English does no learn the recent research findings, he or she will probably produce out-of-date papers. For this reason, refreshing the knowledge helps people do better in their positions.
Learning more knowledge in other fields helps people do their own jobs better. Although one person cannot learn everything in the world within one's lifetime, knowing more always helps to succeed. For instance, my mother is an accountant. Three years ago she insisted on learning computer skills in her spare time. Her collegues laughed at her because few people of her age would spend time and money learning this useless skills. However, now my mother's company is required to do accounting on computer. My mother does it well but other accountants are laid off. Some knowledge seems to be irrelevent to one's major, but it may be useful someday in the future. It's better to learn something new in one's spare time. It may bring unexpected success in the future.
Education is an unceasing task of people's life. If people want to keep doing good in their lives, they should always learn things both in their own fields and in other fields. Always preparing oneself for the unpredictible future is benefitial to one's life.
