A traditional Chinese Proverb goes this way: Learning is endless. Such viewpoint stands opposite to a widespread misinterpretation of education as attaining a diploma to find good job. Especially in modern society, education serves essentially for the building of civilized manhood as well as a civilized society.
First of all, education keeps one abreast with the changing world. High technology and rapid development are two features of modern society. All the knowledge and skills achieved at school or on campus is far from enough to help modern people in dealing with the variety of changes in today's competition. Just look around, the arrival of internet has outdated many media workers with little knowing about computer. Inability to communicate in English is a mark for the illiterate in modern time. One has to learn continuously in order to keep up with the development of society.
Secondly, education contributes a lot to the civilized manhood. We should not confine education to training, exercises, tests. The fundamental goal of education is to cultivate qualified social members for the society. Just as a famous educator in China Zhou Tarfen has said, "Society is the best teacher." One has received education since he was born. All he experienced has functioned consciously or unconsciously in the formulation of his morality, the sense of value, views of the world. It cost one the whole life to develop a set of viewpoints about the community, about the world, about life itself and to implement them in real life. In such sense. Education shouldn't, and impossibly, only account for a specific stage in one's life.
Last but not the least, education is a integral part not only for individuals but for the whole society. Society needs education as long as it exsits and develops. And education for various groups of people, from kindergarten to university for the old has permeaties all aspects of life. Now the fact is that one can receive all forms of education at different stages of his whole life.
To esteblish mortivating conception of education as a life long process, would not only benefit one as an individual but also for the society as a whole.
