It is said that "never to old to learn." Therefore, education is not merely going to schools and colleges, but rather, a lifelong process.
Education enables one to keep informed of the latest knowledge, so that he or she may not be kicked out of modern competition too easily. The modern world is developing a rapid speed. New science and technology keep coming up and replacing old ones. Anything learned at 20 may not be useful still when a person goes into his or her 30s. As a result, a person cannot stick to what he or she has learned in the youth, he or she has to absorb new things.
Education also enables a person to broaden his or her vista, so that he or she is able to lead a more colorful life. Modern means of communication and transportation make it possible that a person can learn what interests him or her without the limit of time and place. My grandparents took up courses in Chinese caligraphy and painting after retirement. They find these courses much more attractive than play mahjong or cards with friends. They think they have new meanings of life. Although they never dream of becoming another Granny Mosse, who started painting at 60, and became famous at 80, they are proud of their own works. The best presents they give their friends are something written or painted by themselves. It is with their encouragements that many friends of theirs also take up similar courses.
Many people have realized the importance of education in their life, therefore, they often try their best to enter good schools or colleges for education. However what counts is not only what one learns in colleges, but also what one learns in his or her lifetime, because education is a lifelong process.
