It remains quite controversial as to the importance of education. People usually define education by the period in which one stays at school. However, as far as I am concenced, education is a lifelong process, because it plays a most important part in a modern person. The reasons of its unique importance can be listed as follows:
First, in an era of information, everything is developing at such a rapid speed that if one does not educate himself with the latest knowledge, he will soon lag behind time, and even worse, be outcasted by the society. The role is true to every one without exception. I read a report yesterday in the newspaper covering the strong of a worker. The worker was awarded "Best Employee in the Factory" ten years ago. As an accountant, her skills in abacus, in terms of both accuracy and relocity, were matchless. However one year ago, she became one of the lay-outs of the company, because she was unable to operate a computer which has become a must for every modern accountant. Fortunately, now she got recruited into the company, because she picked up the skills of computer by herself during the year at home. From the story, we can see that even someone, who used to be the best in the field, cannot keep up with the time and drop out of the competition, if he fails to update his knowledge. Therefore education is a lifelong process.
Second, as an old saying goes, "to live is to learn." One's education goes far beyond his learning at school. Education does not exdusively come from the theaetical stuff in the book: It can be in the form of a saying, a chat , a TV program or just an daily skill. These types of education are also indispensable in one's life. The house of my friends caught fire one night. Only a few of the residents managed to get out, including my friend. Later on I asked him how he made it. He told me that he had watched a TV program entitled "Surviral in the Fire". He followed the instruction given in the program and saved his own life in the fire. From my friend's experience we can see that one is actually receiving education from a great variety of channels in his life. It is a lifelong process.
From the above discussion, you can see why education is essential in one's life and it's a lifelong process. The development of the society requires one to keep learning and updating the knowledge. More than that, one is receiving education of vanous kinds in all his life.
