It is a pity that some people simply see education as going to schools or colleges, or as a means to secure good jobs. I believe education is so important to a person, especially a modern person, that it should be regarded as a lifelong process.
First of all, the developing society requires people to receive education throughout their lives. As the society develops, more and more new technologies and equipment are put into use. People not only have to recognize them but also acquire the knowledge and skills needed to put them into operation. Knowledge and skills do not come to people themselves. The only way is to receive education. Since new things keep on emerging, people have to be educated throughout their lives.
Secondly, people urge themselves to receive lifelong education in order to satisfy themselves. Most people not only want to secure good jobs, but to score great achievements on their careers as well. However, with limited and out-of-the-date knowledge and skills, people are impossible to keep jobs or make achievements in this world of competition. To reach the target of scoring great achievements, people ask themselves to receive education. Only new knowledge and skills enable people to broader their herizon and to catch up with this changing world. Therefore, it's people's will to have a lifelong education.
More than two thousand years ago, Confucius, the most famous philosopher, thinker and educator in China, told people how happy it was to learn something and review them from time to time. There is also an old saying telling people to receive a lifelong education. That is "never too old to learn." Karl Marx, one of the most famous philosophers in the western world, also showed people what a lifelong education is with his own experience. Nearly all wise people advocate a lifelong education.
Many people have been aware of the importance of education, but some still don't. I hope more people will realize it and view education as a lifelong one.
