In the past five years, there have been subtle changes in people's diets. The amount of grain in their diets has decreased by 4% and the amount of fruits and vegetables has decreased by 3%. However, the amount of milk has increased 3% and the amount of meat has increased 4%.
These statistics can be explained in many ways. For example, recent studies on the importance of meat and milk in a healthy diet could influence the increase in these foods. Meat, as a valuable source of protein, has been reported to be healthier than previous studies concluded, and milk and other daily products can prevent osteoporosis later in life. Another possibility is an increase in income. Meat and milk are often more expensive than grains, fruits, and vegetables. People may have recently been able to afford more of these expensive foods.
I believe that the changes in people's diets over the past five years are not the result of one occurrence. Many circumstances have caused the increases in meat and milk consumption and the decreases in the consumption of grains, meats, and vegetables. I believe the above-stated possibilities are two of many causes of these diet changes.
