A person, usually as a matter of habit, uses body language unconsciously to supplement his or her words. At times, body language can say more than actual words. We can learn more about what a person is feeling by his or her movement. For example, nervous people tend to fiddle or sway. Impatient or dissatisfied individuals tend to cross their arms or tap their foot.
By living in a foreign country for the past six months, I have come to appreciate the use of body language. Body language is a good source of communication for people who speak two different languages. I have been able to recognize when someone is angry and when someone is happy with me without understanding his or her words. Body language also helps a person who is trying to learn a foreign language. I can interpret movement to predict what I think someone is trying to say. Then, I can pay close attention to his or her word use or sentence structure.
