"Hurry up, hurry up, we are wasting time. Time is money! Let's go!" We frequently hear this statement, but it often happens that haste makes waste. Once, Francis Bacon said that knowledge is power, and certainly today, we are in the middle of an information revolution which expands our knowledge, and thus our power, but we must increase our knowledge over a long period. It takes a long time to grow from a small child to a mature adult. A good education is a very slow process and takes years to bring to a successful conclusion. In fact, learning should be a life long process. To obtain a good education at the bachelor's level in the university is the result of many years of study. To become even more well educated some persons take advanced degrees such as the MA, MS, or MBA, or even the doctorate. Shortcuts in education usually leave people with superficial broad knowledge but no depth. We don't want roads or bridges to be built quickly by engineers who have not spent a long enough time studying proper engineering techniques. We don't want medical doctors operating on us if they have not had a long and rigorous medical training. We can't speak English or another foreign language well by a quick basic set of lessons in the language. Learning to be good at sports takes a long time, or mistakes can be made which cause serious injuries. Most really useful skills involve a long-term effort. We all know the popular saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day."
It's true that life is fast paced today. Nonetheless, the best qualities in life require a very long time to develop and mature. Haste certainly makes waste in the development of a full and happy life.
