Most colleges in America have a two-day weekend, usually Saturday and Sunday, which provides certain advantages to the students. It makes it easier to focus and be diligent during the week if the student knows there is a break that will allow him to recharge. Also, having a block of free time provides students the opportunity to devote extra time to subjects that are more demanding. Given the fact that many students at college are from different towns, the two-day weekend also gives them ample time to visit their families. On the other hand, some may see the break as a disadvantage, causing students to break their momentum.
I feel the two-day weekend is an advantage to college students. I often spent my weekends visiting with family and friends or simply relaxing. Many times I had extra work that needed to be done, and the weekend provided me with uninterrupted time. The weekends were great for working on long-term projects, which allowed the week to be devoted to the more immediate ones. Whether my weekend was spent relaxing or working, it alleviated much of the stress and pressure associated with college life.
