When dealing with their careers many people feel that change is not beneficial and stability is best. They feel that staying in their current position provides them with job security and makes them appear more dedicated. If they were to leave their present job for a different one, they may feel they are being disloyal and capricious.
However, today many people, especially younger ones, do what is known as job-hopping. They may stay with one company for a year or two and then move on to a different one. They do not necessary feel that their loyalty lies with the company but instead feel it lies with them. By changing jobs frequently many feel they are broadening their skills and making themselves more marketable.
I feel that job-hopping can be beneficial, especially in the early years of employment. Many people start a job at an entry-level position and may not have the opportunity to advance. Once they have experience they can move to a job that is more suitable and more challenging. However, once a person has experienced many different areas and acquired many different skills, I think' it is beneficial to settle into a position long-term. Staying in one position allows one to hone his skills and become a part of a network. Hopefully, after several years of job-hopping one will discover a position that he would want to stay in for a longer period of time.
