Some people live to work and the others work to live. The people that live to work need work to occupy their lives. They are lost when they are not at work, when on vacation, for example. In the United States, we call them "workaholics," meaning addicted to work.
Some people are the opposites of these workaholics and they only work to survive. If they had the choice, they would not do anything all day. They only work because they must be able to pay utility and food bills and rent.
In my opinion, I would prefer to be a person who lives to work than one who works to live. While being a workaholic can be damaging to a person's social life, a person's relationship with his or her spouse or children, I feel that a person who works to live is very lazy. I associate a workaholic with success or the potential for success and a lazy person with bare survival and hopelessness.
