Owning a car can be much more convenient than taking a bus or train and much less expensive than taking a plane. Having a car allows the driver to travel long or short distances any time he is ready without having to attain and confonn his schedule to a bus or train schedule. Also, having a car gives the driver the luxury and privacy of travelling alone or with friends.
However, owning a car is convenient for the individual but can be harmful to society. As more and more individuals buy cars new problems emerge. More cars on the road cause more pollution in the air and more traffic on the roads. A car loses its appeal of convenience when a driver is forced to sit in traffic for long periods of time.
I bought my first car as soon as I was old enough to drive. Since then, I have become very dependent on my car for travel. I become frustrated using trains and buses when their schedules are not convenient with mine. I cannot imagine living without a car. I am willing to endure traffic for the convenience and privacy a car offers.
