University life, for those fortunate enough to attend, is one of the most important, interesting, and challenging experiences a person can have. It provides the opportunity for social and scholastic growth, as well as the creation of a network of business and personal connections. It also allows one to "soul search," that is, examine one's life for meaning.
Throughout one's university career, one can join sports teams, student unions, fraternities/sororities, or activist groups. If one opts not to join an organization, it is still possible to meet people at parties and social activities. Most American universities have ethnically diverse student bodies, so learning about other cultures is possible.
While interesting, university is also challenging. Today, most American students work. Organizing time between work, study, and leisure can be difficult. However, good students usually have little trouble adjusting. The normal pressures of tests and papers further train students to operate effectively in stressful situations.
Approached properly, university life has much to offer. Wise, optimistic students avoid cynicism and seize available opportunities. Such students stand to benefit the most from their unique experience.
