My personal knowledge of the current energy-consumption situation is very limited. However, I do realize that the provision of sufficient energy supply is a major responsibility for governments and companies. I further understand that different areas face different problems related to energy consumption. In some nation-states, people consume far more energy than necessary; in others, authorities have difficulty providing enough energy. Pollution related to energy production is also a concern.
The developed world should concentrate on lowering individual energy consumption and promoting environmentally sound production methods. Such can be accomplished through education and technological innovation.
Developing countries should focus on upgrading energy production technology to meet today's standard. Many developing states utilize large facilities with many employees to produce relatively small amounts of energy. Such facilities are often among the worst polluters. This system is inefficient and places developing countries in a disadvantageous position. To upgrade, developing countries can form technology-expert exchange programs with developed countries.
I witnessed such an exchange program of energy experts between China and America in 1999. In addition to technical updates, the program also encouraged international goodwill and understanding.
As production means improve, energy will become cheaper and more available. It will be produced in more efficient and less wasteful ways. This will be of benefit to everyone in the world.
