Human rights differ in all parts of the world. Basic human rights are universal but are not necessarily recognized in some areas. Ideally a certain standard of human rights would be adopted and adhered to by all countries and cultures, thus truly making human rights universal.
Though the most influential countries all have similar policies regarding human rights, in smaller areas these rights are culturally specific. For example, small countries in the Middle East do not necessarily enforce the same human rights as the United States. As society has progressed human rights have become more universal, but there will always be some regions where different laws apply.
Most people take basic human rights for granted. Being treated fairly and being able to express my opinion without fear of repercussions are things to which I do not give a second thought. It seems odd that there was a time in my country, and even now in other countries, people did and do not enjoy this freedom.
