The twentieth century is the bloodiest century in recorded history. As countries came to power they often sacrificed the lives of many of their own citizens and the citizens of other countries. The two world wars caused countless lives to be lost and touched all regions. Vietnam also provided a great deal of tragedy and senseless bloodshed. When countries and people become greedy, disaster always strikes.
A key ingredient to a more peaceful world is respect. All countries are different and adopt different philosophies; these differences must be studied, understood, and respected. Ethnocentrism leads to conflict, and conflict does not promote peace. All people can make a difference by educating themselves on the beliefs and customs of other countries. Only by trying to understand another's way of life can open lines of communication be accomplished. Though there will always he policies that people do not agree with and many times abhor, society will be starting in a new direction if they educate themselves on other's cultures and policies.
