The United Nations was developed to facilitate peace among nations. Currently the UN has 189 member countries. This organization works to promote peace, human rights, and settle international conflict.
The UN's role in multilateral relations could be improved. Though its intent is excellent, it fails to carry out its mission in many occasions. For example, even with member countries, human rights issues are still a problem. It seems that the UN is able to pinpoint the "problem" areas but lacks the authority to carry out the measures needed to change them. They seem to be the ideal organization on paper, but lack action.
I do feel the UN is a necessary organization. However, it is not reaching its potential. Steps should be taken to ensure that the UN has the power and resources necessary to carry out its mission.
