Environmental problems are currently very serious, including water, soil, and the greenhouse effect. Advances in society have contributed to this problem. With the increasing number of cars, large plants, and other pollutants, it is no wonder that the environment is suffering. Society's desire for convenience and ease of life, such as driving to work and not recycling, has had a tremendous effect of the environment as well.
Many people feel that this is not their problem and what little bit they contribute will not make a difference. However, if people devote to changing one aspect of their life, society can make a difference. It is as simple as using mass transit, making sure one's car meets emission regulations, or recycling trash. People must realize that this affects them, which will greatly affect their children, and the time to do something is now.
The government must continue to strictly monitor the amount of pollutants being given off and must force companies as well as individuals to pay if regulations are not followed. Awareness programs on the status of the environment and on preventive measures should be pushed heavily. It is only with the combined effort of government guidance and societal responsibility that environmental problems will improve.
