I am writing to express my interest in your Asian Studies program. Although I am not a citizen of your country, the quality and reputation of your program greatly attract me. I wish to apply to your Asian Studies Department to earn a masters degree in Chinese Studies.
Realizing the highly competitive nature of your program, I will explain my background. I have a B.A. in International Studies, with a concentration in Asian Studies. I have lived and worked in China for two years, and can speak basic Chinese. I am well accustomed to Chinese culture.
I have great desire to further improve my knowledge of China and the Chinese language. I have read many of your professors publications, and most correspond to my interests. Your program best suits my needs, and will help me attain my future academic and career goals (I ultimately want to be a professor).
I can provide your department with research or teaching assistance, if needed. I can also advise and assist students who wish to go to China, or give lectures on my experiences. I plan to publish papers, which will contribute to the discipline.
Enclosed with this letter and application fee are my G.R.E. scores, three writing samples, three letters of recommendation, and contact information. Please contact me if you need anything else, or have any questions. I sincerely appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you.
