Last year, one of my medical-school deans professed the belief that everything is political, including medical science. It struck me as cynical at the time, but now I'm bombarded with that view. Medical schools are no longer content to teach medicine but insist on creating advocates for their desired social causes as well. On Yale's campus alone there are lectures or seminars on everything from police abolition to the "The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind." At least the latter was condemned by the administration after the fact. Climate change poses challenges—including public-health sequelae—that require action. But most people would agree that physicians prescribing economic policy to fix the problem is laughable. Doctors can't stand it when others tell them how to do their jobs, and given the brutal battle with vaccine hesitancy, is this really the best time for the profession to push fantastical fiscal policy?
