Regarding the Michael Ramirez editorial cartoon in the Saturday edition, is it really fair to assign President Joe Biden the blame for the catastrophe of the last 20 years in Afghanistan? Save for the tragic loss of our service members last week at the hands of a suicide bomber at the Kabul airport, I do not believe that any other active military members have been lost during Biden's tenure. If anything, Ramirez should have used in his cartoon this caption, "The Bush/Obama/Trump/Biden Memorial," since 2,500 U.S. troops were killed and tens of thousands wounded during prior administrations in a war that also has killed and wounded hundreds of thousands of Afghans. The ongoing revisionist history regarding our involvement in this sorry affair is appalling. For the record, President Abraham Lincoln was the commander in chief during a conflict that cost about 650,000 American lives, but I suspect that Ramirez would not publish a cartoon laying the blame for Civil War deaths on our 16th president in such an unfair portrayal as he did to our 46th.
