The Chicago Department of Public Health allowed approximately 38,000 people to attend Kanye West's listening party for his new album at Soldier Field on Thursday night and did not require those who attended to wear masks or provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test. No need to worry, however, as attendance was reduced from a full house number of 63,000. A Chicago Park District spokesperson indicated that the reduced capacity shows how seriously the city takes the pandemic. Ironically, on the same day, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced the return to a statewide indoor mask mandate and vaccine requirements for those working in high-risk areas such as health care or education due to the rapid spread of the delta variant in the state. How come the city of Chicago is allowing events like this to take place at the same time Illinoisans are being told to wear our masks and get our vaccines?
